my little life

i am having a wonderful day cleaning and listening to music (currently listening to of montreal, a new love of mine!) ...i've had a very "social" week so it's good to have some time to myself.

last night, beth, meg and i went to see the oscar nominated shorts at melwood. the one that won the academy award for best animated short, "the moon and the son," was so good; it made me and beth cry. it was about a man and his complicated relationship with his father. it effectivly used mixed media (drawings, photographs, home video footage) to create a piece that was alternatly sad, loving, and angry. we enjoyed most of the films, although i could have done without the pixar short. i think their films all look the same and they need to do do something new. of course, people like that style and are comfortable with it which translates into box office sales, so they will probably continue to make films that look like madagascar and finding nemo for a long time. oh, there was also one called "9" and according to the program that listed all films, focus feature is in the works of expanding it's 11 minutes to a feature length film, so maybe there is hope for animation yet.

i'm really not a fan of st. patrick's day. i have no desire to ever wear a plastic green hat, green beads, and get incredibly wasted on green beer. we made the mistake after the films to try to go to thai me up on the southside where everyone did in fact have the very desire i just described. ugh. thai me up ended up being closed already (boring) so we went back to oakland for some india garden, where we ran into mike and his date. he didn't see us so we sent him a note through one of the waitresses, something i had always wanted to do. we hid from him for a while but he finally found us and we had a laugh over it. right as we were paying our check, joel, vin and jason came strolling in. kind of weird, but if you think about it, not really.

i realize that play by plays of my days do not make for the most exciting blog reading, but considering i started out writing this for myself and that actually having people read it was somewhat of an afterthought, i feel no real need to apologize...

i'm going to get some more cleaning done and maybe even do some organizing and sorting...the excitement of being a housewife never ends!
