blue-ringed octopus

our apartment is completely torn apart as we are cleaning out the other bedroom for ms meegs. i have to get everything in it's place by today/tomorrow before we leave for n.c. so of course it is a good time for me to post about the blue-ringed octopus! this isn't completely random, i found a photograph of one from a old magazine clipping and i was intrigued. i looked it up on google and found out that it is only 8 inches in diameter but is poisonous enough to kill a human. yikes! the only way to survive a bite is to have your heart massaged for hours accompanied by artificial respiration until the venom is worked out of your system. double yikes! they are quite lovely though. side note: did anyone know that australia is the leader in the venom industry? i didn't even know there was such a thing as a venom industry. you can read more about mr. blue-ring here.
