jay and i rode our bicycles around our neighborhood last night. a little baby girl said "bike" as we passed. i like that babies don't know enough words to try to be articulate about things; even kids as young as three and four begin the habit of trying to say everything they know about a given topic in order to sound knowledgable and impressive. but babies who are just learning how to talk can only really say what they see. and sometimes, that feels like all that needs to be said about a topic.

i heard someone playing chopin on their piano and saw two little boys sitting in chairs in their front yard, saying nothing to each other, just sitting there looking out into the street, like to old men.

it was a beautiful night.
